The school
Langholtsskóli was founded in fall 1952 and has operated for over seven decades. It's a comprehensive school for students in grades 1-10. It is one of the largest schools in the city, with around 650 students. The school has about 100 staff. The school's motto is respect, well-being, and creative school work. Langholtsskóli is a Rainbow-certified primary school.
Recreation
The after-school program Glaðheimar is for children in grades 1 and 2, the after-school program Dalheimar is for children in grades 3 and 4 and the youth center Þróttheimar provides middle and upper primary level education social activities.

Primary school meals
School meals are free for the 2025-2026 school year. However, the school still needs to track information about allergies and intolerances and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.
Students registered last year will be automatically enrolled. Others need to register. Change the registration at matur.vala.is.
Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with parents and enhance their involvement in schooling. Every Reykjavík City school has an active parent association.
School culture
At Langholtsskóli, we aim to strengthen and build a positive school culture. We emphasize responsibility, respect, consideration, honesty, kindness and empathy, and expect students to apply themselves in their studies and participate in maintaining a positive school culture.
The national curriculum for primary schools states that students need to develop various skills in daily life to be active participants in a democratic society, including communication skills, respect, tolerance, and understanding of democratic society structure. Students must learn to interact harmoniously with each other and all school staff, take responsibility for their own conduct and behavior, and respect school rules.
To help maintain and support a good school culture, we have established school rules. Our golden rules apply at all times and everywhere, and there are also rules for specific areas within the school.
