Examples include special education, support from professionals within and outside school, referrals to specialists, and regular meetings with students and parents. Special support for students can include:

  • Individual plans
  • Interviews, guidance, counseling
  • Assessment and analysis of learning abilities
  • Support in the learning center

Specialist Services

Langholtsskóli receives its specialist services at the North Center. Two divisions there - the School and Recreation Division and the Children and Family Division - offer counseling, support and consultations. These services are available to both students and school staff.

Representatives from both divisions attend student welfare council and solution team meetings to prioritize assistance requests and referrals.

School staff and parents can request assistance from the North Center by submitting a formal application through My Pages on the Reykjavík City website. We emphasize early intervention and addressing issues before they become more serious. Parents should contact the school immediately if they have any concerns about their child's welfare.

The School and Recreation Services at the North Center provides the school with a wide range of specialist support. The professional staff includes teaching consultants, behavioral counselors and a speech language therapist. School and Recreation Services staff participate in solution team meetings to help resolve issues and support both students and staff. The North Center staff also provides guidance on teaching methods and school development initiatives.

The school psychologist is based at the North Center. Requests for the psychologist's involvement go through the student-protection council, which follows up as possible.

Individual curriculum

Individual curricula are created for students when significant changes to learning objectives, materials, or teaching methods are needed compared to peers. Special education teachers, developmental therapists, and homeroom teachers review students' status and create plans in consultation with parents and students. Individual curricula are developed with reference to the class curriculum.

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties.

Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a prosperity contact in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The prosperity contact offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services.

Children, youth, and guardians can reach the school prosperity contact to request integrated services.
