School counseling at Langholtsskóli

School counselors advocate for students, protect their welfare and seek solutions to their issues. School counselors are bound by confidentiality regarding students' private matters, except as required by Act No. 80/2002 on Child Protection. All students and parents can seek help from school counselors.

Main tasks

School and career counselors provide personal and social support to students. They offer advice on bullying prevention and study techniques. They also guide students on education and career choices and welcome new students.

Specialist Services

Teachers refer students to a psychologist in consultation with parents through a formal referral. Parents can also seek help on their own initiative. The student-protection council reviews all referrals and requests for assistance. It prioritizes tasks at its meetings. Parents should address issues before they become too large.

  • Special education consultants advise on special education or specific assistance for disabled children in primary school. This includes help with creating individual curricula. Teaching advice includes guidance for primary school staff on teaching methods and school development.
  • The school psychologist is based at the North Center. Requests for the psychologist's involvement go through the student-protection council, which follows up as possible.
